alternate dispute resolution
We have one of the strongest alternate dispute resolution (ADR) teams of any boutique law firm in Pakistan, representing international and local clients in a wide range of commercial disputes. We offer full-scale ADR services, including settlement negotiation, mediation, expert determination, and arbitration.
Our lawyers are dedicated to effectively guiding clients through the variety of ADR processes and identifying the best recourses for settlements. Our lawyers are recognized for their negotiation skills, commercial judgment, analytical skills, and persuasiveness.
Commercial arbitration is the main area of focus of our ADR practice. We are experienced in all of the stages of domestic arbitration proceedings, from risk assessments to arbitral awards. We also represent clients in judicial proceedings ancillary to domestic arbitration proceedings, including petitions to compel arbitration, applications for interim relief, and proceedings to confirm or set aside domestic arbitral awards and their implementation.
In addition, we act as local counsel in international arbitrations, both institutional and ad hoc, involving a wide variety of commercial disputes governed by Pakistani law and all major international rules, including those of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).
We advise on international investment disputes and treaty-based investment arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID). We frequently represent clients in judicial proceedings in local courts regarding the enforcement of foreign arbitration clauses and foreign arbitral awards under the terms of the New York Convention and ICSID Convention. We also provide strategic counsel to foreign clients on delicate issues, such as how to handle a legal proceeding in a local court without jeopardizing the contractual right to arbitrate. Our lawyers have handled many important cases, some of which have been featured in law journals and serve as guiding precedents.
